Starting My Weight Loss Moderation Journey (Without Giving Up Cake)
I’m starting my weight loss journey focused on weight loss moderation—no strict diets, no guilt, no complicated formulas and yes, I’m still enjoying cake along the way.

My Weight Loss Moderation Story: The Honest Version
Okay, let’s get started. But first, I want to be honest about where my mindset is right now.
I’ve been fat for a long time. I wasn’t the skinny kid, but I wasn’t always heavy either. My weight crept up slowly—starting around puberty, through pregnancy, and now into menopause. The truth is, I need to lose over 200 pounds.
And I’ve heard all the advice from folks who’ve lost 10, 15, maybe 20 pounds—and hey, good for them. But that’s not the kind of journey I’m on. For me, this is going to take time—probably years—and I’ve made peace with that.
This time, I’m not chasing big promises or impossible timelines. I’m aiming for a slow, steady decline in weight and a real improvement in my health. My focus is on weight loss through moderation—finding balance instead of going all in on strict diets that don’t last.
I chose moderation because cutting out foods that are part of my life, culture, and joy just doesn’t make sense. I know people who do it—not for health reasons, but because they think they have to. (And let me be clear: giving up coffee? Absolutely not. That’s not happening.)
My Weight Loss Moderation Journey So Far: What I’ve Learned
What I’ve learned is that drastic changes or cutting out entire food groups didn’t work for me in the long run. They often left me feeling deprived and frustrated. That’s why my approach with weight loss moderation feels different—it’s about making realistic, sustainable changes that I can stick with.
Let’s be frank—I love rich foods. I’ve got butter running through my veins. Not to boast, but that’s just how much I enjoy those decadent flavors. What I’ve realized, though, is that I can’t have rich foods at every meal. Every meal doesn’t have to be decadent to be enjoyable.
Learning to balance those rich treats with lighter, simpler meals is a big part of my weight loss moderation plan. Instead of aiming for rapid results, I’m focusing on small shifts and balanced choices. That way, I’m not just losing weight—I’m building a healthier relationship with food and myself.
The Number on the Scale (Yep, I’m Sharing It)
Let’s just rip the Band-Aid off—yep, that’s my number. My feet, my scale, and the honest starting point of this whole moderation journey. And yes, I’d already dropped a few pounds by the time I took this pic (we’ll get into that later). No shame, just keeping it real.

Why Past Diets Didn’t Work: Facing My Weight Loss Challenges Honestly
I hate to talk about my failures and extremes, but it’s important to lay it all out. Over the years, I’ve tried those popular fad diets that force you to follow strict meal plans and cut calories to the extreme. I’ve even tried over-the-counter pills and obsessive calorie counting. (There’s nothing wrong with journaling food, but for me, going to extremes wasn’t sustainable.)
I’ve also toyed with medical interventions, but after seeing too many complications and side effects that showed up later, I decided it wasn’t the right path for me.
These experiences taught me that quick fixes and extreme approaches don’t fit my life or long-term goals. That’s why I’m committed to weight loss moderation—a realistic, balanced way to lose weight without giving up the foods and lifestyle I love.
No Judgment Here: This Is Just My Weight Loss Moderation Journey
Before I go any further, I want to be clear—if you’ve lost weight using extreme diets, calorie cutting, or medical interventions, this isn’t a judgment on you. Everyone’s body and journey are different, and what works for one person might not work for another.
For me, though, those methods never felt sustainable or healthy in the long run. Plus, studies show that extreme diets often lead to yo-yo weight loss and can negatively affect metabolism and mental health. That’s why I’m choosing a different path—weight loss moderation—that fits my lifestyle and keeps me sane.
